St. Louis County, which runs from Duluth on Lake Superior north to the Canadian border, is by far the largest county at 6,247.6 sq mi of land, ahead of Koochiching County (3,104.6 sq mi) and Itasca County (2,667.7 sq mi). Ramsey County, in the Twin Cities, is the smallest at 152.2 sq mi of land.
